An original British Quad poster for the 1970s re-release of the 1936 serial “Flash Gordon”

Flash Gordon is a 1936 science-fiction adventure serial film. Presented in 13 chapters, it is the first screen adventure for Flash Gordon, the comic-strip character created by Alex Raymond in 1934. Buster Crabbe, Jean Rogers, Charles Middleton, Priscilla Lawson and Frank Shannon portray the film's central characters. In 1996, Flash Gordon was selected for preservation in the United States National Film Registry by the Library of Congress as being "culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant".

Flash Gordon, his girlfriend Dale Arden, and the eccentric scientist Dr Zarkov travel to the planet Mongo to stop Ming the Merciless from crashing it into Earth. On Mongo, Flash and his friends encounter bizarre alien races, navigate political intrigue from Ming and his conniving daughter, Princess Aura, and fight various monsters, all while Flash is pursued by Aura, who desires him for herself. Ultimately, Flash helps defeat Ming and save Earth from the impending collision.
