About
As a child of the 60’s my ‘light switch’ moment was a visit to the local picture house with my best friend Stephen to see the much anticipated JAWS - having been released in the States six months earlier the hype had filtered across the ocean (no pun intended) and the anticipation of a 13 year old stood outside the ABC in the pouring rain would have been palpable.
Sadly the ABC on Birkenheads Argyle Street has long gone but the memories remain. Sat on the front row in the plushest of deep red velvet seats - no seats in ‘the Gods’ for today not for JAWS - trailers, previews and ads finally finished, lights go down … let the terror begin.
Not sure how much of the film we saw peeping through clenched fingers, this was so far removed from those previous family outings to watch the latest Disney. Oh and that music that ‘da dum’ the anticipation, the fear … oh and Stephen gripping my arm so tight … I almost wet myself. A bigger boat? I needed bigger pants but suffice to say I was hooked!!

So here we are almost 50 years later … years spent buying, selling, bartering and the occasional ‘dumpy bin’ dive we have teamed up with Handmade Frames in leafy Teddington to open our first gallery - Picture House Posters.
Our collection not only reflects the films we love but also the individual artist and design houses responsible for these wonderful pieces of art.
We hold posters, lobby cards and storyboards from the 1940’s through to the present day, with all genres represented from the classic comedy capers of Carry On to the charismatic James Bond from Dirty Harry to Harry Palmer … and if we don't have it in stock, I feel confident we can obtain it on your behalf.

To us there is no better memory of a movie than the actual poster that was used to promote it …
