An original Australian Daybill poster for the 1949 release of “Landfall”

A British war film directed by Ken Annakin and starring Michael Denison, Patricia Plunkett and Kathleen Harrison. It is based on the 1940 novel Landfall: A Channel Story, written by Nevil Shute.

Rick is a coastal command pilot patrolling the English Channel for U-Boats. He sinks what he believes is a German submarine, but which later proves to be British. He is charged with neglect and volunteers for a perilous mission. Meanwhile, his girlfriend Mona, through some odd information she has picked up, is trying to prove that Rick is innocent of the charges and actually did sink a German U-Boat.

"Wars come, and all the world is shattered by their blast. But through it all young people meet, fall in love and marry."
