An American romantic comedy war film, based on the 1961 novel The Bottletop Affair by Gordon Cotler who was a Japanese interpreter for US Army Intelligence during World War II. It stars Jim Hutton and Paula Prentiss and was directed by Richard Thorpe.

At the end of World War II, Lt. Merle Wye is given the task of capturing the sole remaining Japanese person on an American-controlled island in the Pacific. Wye is a bumbling fool, however, clumsy and awkward, so when level-headed Lt. Molly Blue shows up to help him, it's not a moment too soon. 

Though they are quite different in temperament and intelligence, the two young officers work together - and fall in love along the way.
