An original French Grande poster for the 1972 re-release of “Gilda” featuring imagery by renowned artist Boris Grinsson. The poster is in superb condition, with minimal edge wear, and was most likely never displayed.
Gilda is an American film noir directed by Charles Vidor and starring Rita Hayworth and Glenn Ford.
The film is known for cinematographer Rudolph Maté's lush photography, glamorous setting, costume designer Jean Louis's wardrobe for Hayworth (particularly for the dance numbers), and choreographer Jack Cole's staging of "Put the Blame on Mame" and "Amado Mio", sung by Anita Ellis.
Loaded-dice toting gambler Johnny Farrell cleans up at a waterfront dive and is subsequently saved from retaliation by the dagger tipped cane of Ballin Mundson, owner of a Buenos Aires casino and head of a Nazi cartel. Recognizing a kindred spirit in Johnny, the two become close and Ballin makes him his right-hand man. Johnny's intense loyalty to Ballin is strained by Ballin's surprise marriage to the supremely magnetic Gilda, a femme fatale that once loved and then jilted Johnny, setting the tone for his future relations. The odd trio begin exploring their conflicting desires while Ballin manoeuvres to retain control over his vested interest.
“You're a child, Gilda. A beautiful greedy child. And it amuses me to feed you beautiful things because you eat with such a good appetite.”
