An original Australian Daybill poster for the 1954 release of “Naked Sea”

Naked Sea is a 1954 American documentary film which follows the journey of the tuna-fishing boat the Star-Kist, on a four-month 15,000 mile journey fishing off the coast of South America. The film was produced, directed, shot and edited by Allen H. Miner. It was narrated by William Conrad.

The crew, led by Captain Joachim Qualin, includes an engineer, radio man, bait man, cook, carpenter, and net man, and many are of Portuguese descent. The crew are willing to spend four months at sea in the hope of receiving a share of the profits if the fishing is good.

"The engineer, radio man, bait man, cook, carpenter and net man are all willing to spend four months at sea."
