The Man Who Fell to Earth is a 1976 British science fantasy drama film, directed by Nicolas Roeg and adapted by Paul Mayersberg. Based on Walter Tevis's 1963 novel of the same name. It stars David Bowie, Candy Clark, Buck Henry, and Rip Torn. It was produced by Michael Deeley and Barry Spikings.

David Bowie stars as Thomas Jerome Newton, a humanoid alien who comes to Earth to get water for his drought-stricken home planet. Newton establishes a successful business using his advanced technology to fund his plan to build a spaceship, but faces imprisonment by the government, personal struggles, and a descent into alcoholism, all while grappling with the alienating aspects of humanity and his own loneliness.
