Le Mépris (Contempt) is a 1963 French New Wave drama film written and directed by Jean-Luc Godard, based on Alberto Moravia’s 1954 novel Il Disprezzo. The film stars Brigitte Bardot, Michel Piccoli, Jack Palance, Fritz Lang, and Giorgia Moll.

The film follows the breakdown of a marriage that unfolds during the production of a film adaptation of Homer's Odyssey. Scriptwriter Paul Javal is caught between the artistic director, Fritz Lang, and the crass American producer, Jeremy Prokosch, leading to his wife Camille's growing contempt for him, as she feels he is compromising his integrity for money and is using her. The plot explores the clash between art and commerce and the corrosion of a relationship through compromises.

“Bardot at her bold, bare and brazen best! Revelling in Rome, cavorting in Capri ... jolting even the jaded international jet-set in her pursuit of love!”
