Rocky is a 1976 American independent sports drama film directed by John G. Avildsen, written by and starring Sylvester Stallone. It is the first instalment in the Rocky franchise and also stars Talia Shire, Burt Young, Carl Weathers, and Burgess Meredith.

In the film, Rocky Balboa (Stallone), a poor small-time club fighter and loan shark debt collector from Philadelphia, gets an unlikely once in a lifetime shot at the world heavyweight championship held by Apollo Creed (Weathers).

Rocky Balboa, a small-time boxer from working-class Philadelphia, is arbitrarily chosen to take on the reigning world heavyweight champion, Apollo Creed, after the undefeated fighter's scheduled opponent is injured. While training with feisty former bantamweight contender Mickey Goldmill, Rocky tentatively begins a relationship with Adrian, the wallflower sister of his meat-packer pal Paulie.

“Meet the "Italian Stallion": a small-time guy with big-time guts who yearns to be a hero...just once!"
