An American drama film directed by Henry King and starring Rock Hudson and Jean Simmons. The film portrays the lives and loves of the Rambeau family, a California winemaking dynasty trying to survive during Prohibition in the United States.

In 1930, Elizabeth Rambeau arrives in Napa Valley, California, from London to stay at the winery owned by her grandfather Phillipe. Although Prohibition is in effect, Phillipe believes the winery can endure. Dismayed to learn that Phillipe has arranged her marriage to a vineyard owner next to the Rambeaus, Elizabeth is startled when her cousin John romances her while plotting to sell the wine to bootleggers.
